Alex began her career as an elementary teacher in the Saint Louis region, where she witnessed the harsh realities of alcohol and drug abuse and its impact on young people. During her tenure as a teacher, she contributed to IEP meetings for students who were born addicted to drugs and now face the consequences behaviorally and academically. She stood by children whose parents failed to pick them up due to drug use or had to report parents who showed up under the influence, highlighting the drug epidemic’s prevalence. Alex spent her time educating students about the dangers of alcohol and drug abuse through open, informative discussions.

Although Alex is no longer teaching, her commitment to the cause remains strong as a member of the Smart Kids Don’t Get High Foundation. She has helped revamp the Smart Kids Make Smart Choices text into an interactive workbook for elementary and secondary students and created a comprehensive curriculum for the program. She is currently assisting in forming partnerships with districts to implement the Smart Kids Make Smart Choices program in schools across the United States.
